Benoit & François-Eric (France), Christophe & Olivier (Réunion Island)
This group is made up of isolated people, more professional of big game fishing than simple fishing lovers. They were out for a Mega Trip (89h on Hawkins + 82h on the Eastern Bank). The very first cyclone of the season, ANAIS, situated 1000km off the coast, changed a little the plan. Finally they left for 65h on Hawkins, 72h on the Eastern Bank and a one-day trip around Rodrigues.
Activity on the Hawkins Bank was very nice (yellow fin tunas and wahoos up to 30kg) and also jigging but that was quite small though! (lugubris and blue trevallies, seriolas, jobfish), few doggies (37kg for the biggest). It should be noted that current was more than 2 knots, very much stronger than usual.
Strangely, there was no activity trolling on the Eastern Bank. A group of pilot whales followed us all along our stay on the bank (they must have smelt Mario’s cooking). We then decided to head towards Rodrigues during the 2nd night, in order to fish on the main spots around the island. Very beautiful dorados and also some nice doggies made adrenaline rise up while jigging, among these “pros” of multifishing. A small marlin unhooked.
Benoit caught a beautiful giant trevally of 25kg jigging and a nice wahoo casting. Christophe caught the biggest wahoo, François-Eric the biggest tuna and Olivier the biggest grouper.
Finally, there were 270 pieces for a range of 18 different species. Small doggies were released. The numerous giggles up to tears sometimes, instituted a very friendly atmosphere all along the trip; even the capricious weather and the absence of big fish did not manage to spoil it!
